A homeowner in Grays Woods had just picked up a new Hyundai Ioniq 9 and wanted a Tesla Wall Connector installed in the attached garage. Because the Ioniq 9 ships with a native NACS port, it plugs straight into a Tesla Wall Connector — no adapter, no workarounds. It was a good reminder that Tesla chargers aren't just for Tesla drivers anymore.
The challenge was the routing. The electrical panel was behind a fully finished basement — no open ceilings, no easy path to the garage. Most of the ceiling space between the panel and the install location was sealed up, so running new wire without cutting into drywall looked tricky at first.
The solution came from an unexpected place: an existing water shutoff access door in the basement ceiling. It gave me just enough reach to thread a fishstick with a chain attachment through the joist bay and pull the 60A feeder across to the garage wall. Three hours total, no drywall cuts, no patch work, no cleanup on the customer's end. The install looks like the charger was always meant to be there.
