How Long Does EV Charger Installation Take?
March 25, 2026
The short answer: most EV charger installations are completed in a single day. In many cases, it's a half-day job. But the timeline depends on a few factors worth understanding before you schedule.
A Standard Garage Install
If you have an attached garage and a panel with available capacity nearby, a standard install typically takes 2–4 hours. That includes running the circuit from your panel, mounting the charger on the garage wall, and testing everything. You're charging your car the same evening.
Longer Runs and Outdoor Installs
If the charger needs to go in a detached garage, on an exterior wall with a long conduit run, or in a location that requires routing through finished walls or crawl spaces, the job takes longer — typically a full day. The extra time is the conduit work, not the charger itself.
Panel Upgrades
If a panel upgrade is required first, that's a separate job — typically a full day for the panel work, followed by the charger install. In some cases these can be done the same day; in others it makes sense to schedule them back-to-back. We coordinate this upfront so you're not making multiple appointments without a clear plan.
Permits
Not every municipality in Central PA requires a permit for EV charger installation. When one is required, we pull it — but this can add a few days to the timeline depending on how quickly your local office processes it. We always check this upfront during your estimate and factor it into the schedule.
What to Expect on Install Day
Todd shows up at the scheduled time, reviews the install plan with you, and gets to work. For most jobs there's minimal disruption — you don't need to be home the whole time, just available at the start and end. We clean up after ourselves, walk you through the finished install, and make sure you know how to use everything before we leave.
No subcontractors. No surprises. Todd is on every job personally.
