The Job

A family in one of Boalsburg's newer neighborhoods brought home a brand new Tesla Model Y and wanted the garage ready to match. For a Tesla household the Wall Connector is the natural pick: hardwired, no plug or adapter in the mix, and the full 48 amps the car can accept. Call it 40 or more miles of range added every hour, so the car starts every morning full no matter how low it rolled in the night before.

The wrinkle here was the basement. The Eaton BR panel sits on one side of a finished basement, and the attached garage is on the other. A straight shot between them would have meant cutting open finished drywall, and that was never going to be the plan. Instead I fished the run through an existing bulkhead (see that photo), followed it across to the unfinished side of the basement, and came up into the garage stud bay from there. About 70 feet of wire in all, every inch of it hidden, with zero drywall cut and nothing to patch or paint.

The circuit is 6 gauge copper on a dedicated 60 amp breaker, exactly what the Wall Connector needs to deliver its full 48 amp continuous output. With the wirebox mounted and the connections landed, I commissioned the charger through the Tesla app, set the charge rate, and checked the voltage at the connector. The Model Y was charging the same day, and the garage is wired for full output for every Tesla they ever park in it. Nothing to upgrade later.
