The Job

A Bellefonte homeowner brought home one of the new Tesla Model Ys and wanted real Level 2 charging to go with it. For a Tesla household the Wall Connector is the right answer: hardwired, no plug or adapter in the mix, and the full 48 amps the car can take. That's roughly 40+ miles of range added every hour, so the car wakes up full no matter how low it came home.

This layout was about as clean as they come. The car parks in the attached garage, right beside the door into the house, and the Square D Homeline panel sits in the open, unfinished basement directly below. Open joists mean a clean, protected wire path: straight off the panel, across the joists, and up the garage wall into the stud bay behind the charger. About 30 feet of run in all, with no drywall cut, no surface conduit across finished space, nothing to patch or paint.

I pulled 6-gauge copper on a dedicated 60-amp breaker, sized so the Wall Connector can deliver its full 48-amp continuous output with proper headroom. With the wirebox mounted and the connections landed, I commissioned the charger through the Tesla app: set the charge rate, updated the software, and checked the voltage at the connector. The Model Y was charging the same afternoon, and the install is sized for full output for as long as they own a Tesla. Nothing to upgrade later.
